Hayward Openly Shat Upon Mirengoff For Writing The Very Words Hayward Wrote Tonight.

That was about a year ago, but it resulted in Paul’s leaving.

Tonight, Hayward utterly bereft of principles of any sort — and cynically but officially — rules out Tangerine for 2024 — saying he’s “desperate”.

Of course… the main source of GOP desperation is Trump’s nasty and escalating attacks on any other GOP possibility.

But Trump — and the GOP — ought to be more than a lil’ desperate since the former Prezit… is likely to be indicted in NY, within weeks.

And that is all Hayward espouses tonight: the practical reality that the GOP cannot win an election in 2024 if a felony indictee is the ticket topper.

[Of course, it probably cannot win with a brown-shirted loon of a Governor from Florida who attacks gays, and would deny women agency over their own bodies, either — but that’s a laugh for another day, right? Right.]

What a useless, festering pile of fecal matter Hayward’s GOP has become — over even just the last decade.

Damn.

Betsy Stauffer: Thinks Bankers’ FRAUDS… Are The Fault Of A Federal Government.

Well… this is precious.

Everything that went “right” during Tangerine’s “profligate” spending sprees (her term of art, that), as well as tax cuts for the billionaires… was due to sound policy and wise thinking — according to Betsy.

But here, three years later in Ms. Stauffer’s telling — everything that goes wrong (and primarily in the case of Signature Bank at least, the allegation that top executives turned a willfully-blind eye to Sam Bankman Fried’s multi-billion dollar crypto- frauds)… is the fault of that same supposedly profligate spending by a Democratic administration.

That would be enough to damn her remarks as not worthy of a serious person.

But there is much more here: while openly admitting that it would be “at best” gross negligence not to “maturity match” assets (loans) with liabilities (deposit obligations), on the part of SVB (which is exactly what happened!)… she still says it is somehow the Fed’s fault for raising rates, in the first place.

Except that rate management has been the core Fed responsibility for nearly 75 years now. And for at least 55 of those years, bankers have had a whole tool-belt of financial instruments and derivatives specifically to manage rate risks. But those tools cost real cash — and so, they slightly dampen expected profits. It is painfully obvious that these jokers actively eschewed them — seeking endlessly skyward bank profits. [And that’s assuming there was no… fraud — something we do not yet know.] Not clear how that is the government’s fault. [Or if it is, it was primarily under Tangerine, as he signed into law several roll-backs on the Dodd-Frank reforms from the last (2008) bank crisis — by 2019.]

Thus, she (of all people, claiming to be a finance sophisticate) looks just… foolish, in torturing these facts to force a false narrative that somehow blames the Biden Administration for the fact that more than a few crypto-bros and their bankers are straight up fraudsters.

Cheers, Betsy — so ends any pretense of being in any manner a credible voice in any room, for you.

Pfizer Will Spend $43 Billion To Get Seagen’s Oncology Meds Portfolio…

Not surprising, as we mentioned this possibilty last month — though the price (at $229/share) is a little lighter than I would have guessed.

Pfizer needs the deal, and despite what some commenters are saying… it will clear Hart-Scott later this year.

Here’s the WSJ on it:

…Seagen, which is based outside Seattle, helped pioneer a class of drugs known as antibody drug conjugates that can home in on tumors to strike them with a toxic agent.

Pfizer, of New York, has been looking for acquisitions to help it offset losses in sales expected as some top-selling drugs lose patent protection in the next several years….

Now you know, and it looks like some banking contagion / uncertainty will continue to roil the broader markets this week.

And… I wouldn’t expect the overnight Bitcoin bounce to be durable. Onward!

So, Paul: This Helps DeSantis… How, Exactly?!

Paul Mirengoff… thinks there is nothing… preposterous, about DeSantis trying to regulate speech (or declining to provide a megaphone — letting speech… leave their own living room), on the one hand — and, on the other saying he wants to impose “conservative” social/moral values by government fiat, in Florida.

Damn.

All that makes plain… is that DeSantis in fact wants to stamp out dissent and… democracy.

To impose what he thinks of as theocratic rule.

No thanks, Paul. No thanks, Ronnie.

We (nationwide) want none of that “Handmaiden’s Tale” BS.

And we can smell a fake concern troll, a mile away.

So… sod off.

Betsy Stauffer: May Eventually Get Dumped… From Powerline Blog, As Well?

I think it is preciously hilarious that Stauffer feels she’s being “censored” when her demonstrably false, or wildly slanderous speech… has consequences — at entirely private businesses — ones that never agreed to give her a dis-information platform.

She complains that she is in danger of being shadow-banned at Linked-in. [Gosh, I hope so!]

What she fails to say is that she has repeatedly violated their policies. And they (and their advertisers and deep pockets recruiters/companies) don’t want to seem to be selling nut-job political conspiracies.

They want to sell PROFESSIONAL business connections, between willing sophisticates (largely job-seekers — and big companies).

So — yes, Betsy… your choice to lie, and about things we’ve all seen with our own eyes… will not be without consequences.

How long will Powerline be willing to forego ad revenue, on your behalf?

We shall see.

Charming faux naiveté there — from her.

Out.

[U, X 2 — And At Bottom.] Hinderaker Quotes Phelan For Why SVB Failed — But “Supply Siders” Don’t Get Why…

UPDATED @ 6 PM EDT 03.12.2023: A second dubious crypto- blind eye bank has been seized by NY State authorities. This one on a Sunday night. That is… alarming in and of itself. We have been reporting on the investigations that suggest Signature may have been turning a blind eye to outright fraud by Sam Bankman-Fried, and his imploded crypto- empire called FTX. Now… it is… ghost meat. End, second update.

Well, for a change, John offers something with a lil’ cerebral meat to it. For that I am glad.

But his source, John Phelan (a failed “supply sider”), says (grossly oversimplifying) that the federal government’s supply of easy money meant that Silicon Valley Bank couldn’t earn enough spread between deposits and its loans. That may in part turn out to be true (but we have to wait to see the year end 2022 loan book, and deposit base to be certain — not yet available).

But he then goes on to say (in effect) that the federal government caused the collapse of SVB. That stimulus packages, then followed by higher rates — to tame inflation… were the proximate cause.

That ignores one clear reality: private sector / tech sector lending hubris. Bank executives awash in cash, looking to juice a little extra yield, on the asset base.

Several have capably made the argument that SVB was just too flush with cash in the 2020 to 2021 time frame. It had scads of tech project borrowers who were being literally firehosed with private equity money, into the billions, to deliver… nothing. The “to the moon” Bitcoin marketeers, and the vaporware geniuses were fleecing equity financiers (who went along willingly, as did SVB — by vast lendings). These techs vastly overhired, then fired (and ruined several downtowns in the process) and outright failed — in many cases. That left SVB with lots of bad, or problem, loans.

Then several parts of these sector participants imploded in shockingly obvious frauds: FTX, 3AC, Luna, Terra (and many others). That took down pure crypto- bankers, Silvergate and off-shore fly by night exchanges. And the yields SVB had been long chasing — by financing the whole sector… mostly dried up. [Or will await bankruptcy court resolutions in a year or so.]

So, to my eye, it was much more the fact that these SVB executives, acting in a capitalist fever and a myopia, tried to put too much money to work, in too many dubious projects.

That — without a doubt — is in no manner the fault of the government. And thank God, Yellen and the fed will not offer SVB a bailout. The depositors will mostly be okay, if they had $250,000 or less in the bank. Others, above that amount, will need to await asset sales to see more recovery.

Again, Hinderaker cannot accept his allied teams’ responsibility for bad personal decisions (he ran a small bank for several years in Minnesota, as well).

So he… knows better.

Updated, Noon on 03.12.2023: Scott Johnson has also written to complain that Janet Yellen hasn’t spoken specifically enough about “no bailouts“, for SVB.

That is… false. To my ear, she said there will be no bailout (other than pre-existing FDIC deposit insurance payouts). And several MSM sources, including AP and Reuters, now are reporting that an auction is being held this afternoon, to see if any deep pockets want to bid for the whole of SVB as an intact entity — and keep running it. That is a purely private sector auction — not a “bailout”.

So — in sum, let the bankers clean up their own mess, and put their own new risk capital to work. Not more of my federal tax dollars.

Is that clear enough, Scott? You too ran that small Minnesota bank. You know better.

Out.

Hinderaker Believes NONE Of His Enduring Privilege In The US Stems From Forced Labor. I KNOW That To Be False.

Hinderaker is back on his jag of whining against the possibility of reparations for slavery — and forced labor, in various locales around the US.

Y A W N.

He claims he’s never benefited from the institution in the US — ever.

Based on what I know of his family’s four generations of (non-immigrant, landed Dakotas, moneyed real estate, and trusts and estates law practicing) history… that is highly likely a false statement. [And of what I know of his wife’s family history. Thus his childrens’ and grandchildrens’.]

But without doubt — what I know of where he was educated (undergrad, and law) — and where he was, for over 20 years, a law firm partner — I KNOW that is a false statement.

It is so immensely tedious — to listen to his lies… day, after day, after monotonous day.

His whining… is like asking the goldfish to recognize that the water in his bowl… is changed from time to time, by… someone.

It literally is in the air he breathes. He cannot see it.

First “Vigilante / Bounty Hunter” Suit Now Filed In Texas: Women Who Aided An Ex-Wife In Abortion… Sued For $1 Million. Appalling.

I am pretty much left speechless, by this.

The idea that the GOP in Texas thinks people of good will will want to live for any amount of time, under this oppressive regime… is puzzling, to me at least.

Here is that appallingly misguided action, as allowed (at least for now) by Texas’s fundamentally unconstitutional statute:

…Three women in Texas are being sued for wrongful death by a man who claims they helped his now-ex-wife obtain medication for an abortion. It’s another test of state-enforced bans since the U.S. Supreme court overturned the Roe v. Wade decision.

In a lawsuit filed late Thursday in Galveston County, Marcus Silva alleges assisting in a self-administered abortion is tantamount to aiding a murder. Silva is seeking $1 million in damages.

The woman who took the medication in July — weeks after the Supreme Court struck down the constitutional right to abortion that had been in place since 1973 — is not named in the lawsuit. Texas law protects women who get an abortion from being held liable….

This suit is destined to be tossed, if need be, on appeal. And Mr. Silva ought to ashamed of himself. Onward, with better things ahead this afternoon, on a gray Saturday.
