The “Moral Relativism” Error, In Play: Hinderaker, On Slavery.

I wasn’t going to mention it, but on Friday John again made the specious, but to his way of thinking, relativistic case that American slavery wasn’t… “that bad“. Uh-huh.

To do so, like all good white supremacy advocates, he points to how few (he claims) Africans were actually first deposited in what became the US, directly from Dakar, Senegal — one of the few sources of reliable records.

So… he willfully then ignores that the vast bulk of Caribbean slaves, or their offspring, were ultimately sold or shipped on, into the US, often decades after arrival in the Caribbean — from Africa.

He also ignores that the US was the last Western democracy to outlaw slavery. And that there were possibly millions born into bondage here — as an incentive to keep plantations operating… even into the virtual bondage of the 20th Century Jim Crow laws, and penal work gangs.

Indeed, it is likewise true that slaves from many other New World locations were sold into what became Louisiana — but the territory was then… in French hands. So he ignores it, in his tallies, as well.

In sum, this “defense” is willful, bad faith… lying.

Finally, he suggests that because slavery still exists in parts of the world, we Americans ought to be cut some slack — and public school teachers should stop teaching children (so much) about the harrowing slave trade’s affect on Americans who were not white males owning property. There is no logic to a “moral relativist’s view” here. None.

I disagree with John.

And the Southern Poverty Law Center is correct to label John’s site a white supremacy apologist “hate site”, in 2019.

Thus, his site’s ad revenue is down 75% from last year.

That’s your karma, baby. It has come callin’.

Out.
