Here are the uncontroverted facts from JAMA, first [before we even mention / dissect John’s latest distortions]. I think it important to set the record straight even before John has his brief moment to “spin / glossify” — them, i.e., polish the turd… up:
World-wide — top six’s gun death tolls (for 2016): Brazil saw 43,200, the US 37,200, Mexico 15,400, Colombia 13,300, Venezuela 12,800, and Guatemala 5,090, the JAMA study found.
To get granular… above, to the right, I’ve adapted a Vox graphic — to illustrate. The left primarily blue bar is the world’s population by percentages; the right bars expand the small band at the top of the left bar. The center column shows that just two countries (home to less than three per cent of the world’s population) account for more than one third of all gun deaths on the planet (a ten-fold disproportionality — Brazil is an “easy on guns” geography, too. Imagine that!). More broadly, just six countries, with just about 10 per cent of the world’s population account for half of all gun deaths (five-fold disproportionality).
Simply put, John distorts by (i) only counting mass shootings, but one woman killed by an intimate, in a “domestic” — is every bit as dead as each Parkland victim; and (ii) he spreads the incidents across the big US population to distort the actual effect of our gun craze here, since Brazil is far less populated than the US, it looks MUCH worse (more dangerous) — by orders of magnitude. So, John claims the USA’s frequency rate ranks 56th in his “special” world rankings — of mass shootings. I don’t imagine that helped ease the anguish of the families in Colorado last week, or the devout in the synagogue in San Diego, last month… very much.
At all.

John Hinderaker has been telling one version or another of these NRA lies since at least the year 2004.
He will answer to his maker (whatever that looks like, in his world-view), and if Karma takes sway — to the innocent souls of Parkland, MGM Grand Las Vegas, Sandy Hook, the Pulse nightclub, Mother Emmanuel, and Columbine (and dozens of others)…. at the gates, for it all. If there is any Karmic justice at all left in the Universe, that is… he will have to explain his lying — lying that over 15 years, has clearly cost human lives.
