Mr. Trump’s Threat To Sue The New York Times For Libel Is… Pathetic, Baseless — And Transparently Silly.

whopperline-trump-suit-libel-loss-nyt-2016Just go read the editorial page of the “Gray Lady“, overnight.

Mr. Trump seems to think his own recorded voice has damaged his reputation less than the repeated transcriptions of it — in every media outlet on the planet. But he threatens only one with a lawsuit. What a useless buffoon.

Ridiculous.

He loses — in every way possible. In the courts, and more importantly — at the ballot box.

GOP Speaker Of The US House Will No Longer Support The GOP US Presidential Nominee.

whopperline-hinderaker-concedes-2016 This is significant. It has no precedent. Never in the history of the GOP [or the Democratic Party, for that matter!] has the sitting Speaker of the US House (i.e., the nominal head of the GOP, in the Congress) refused to support or defend his party’s nominee for President.

We all know Mr. Trump will lose — and about half of Mr. Ryan’s calculus simply involves not wanting to go down with the ship — sailed by Trumpanzees.

But it does matter. Mr. Trump — good luck retaliating against essentially your entire party’s leadership, when you are once again just a moderately rich old white racist misogynist, in the private sector.

I guess that reasonably accurately describes about 80 per cent of the GOP’s current donor base, though.

Hilarious.

“The modern Republican party has long championed racism, bigotry and misogyny; Donald Trump is just the point of their spear…” — BMaz

whopperline-bmaz-tribute-2016That pull quote bears repeating. My Arizona buddie BMaz, over at emptywheel.net — may have just coined the defining turn of phrase for this weekend’s debate (which I will miss, while traveling):

“…The modern Republican party has long championed racism, bigotry and misogyny; Donald Trump is just the point of their spear….”

This, in response to the GOP elite’s proffered outrage, over the Billy Bush video feed, caught on a live mic on Trump — from 2005.

Do go read all of BMaz. he is absolutely spot on.

It Is All Over Now — Except For The Shouting. And John Knows It Too.

whopperline-hinderaker-concedes-2016 As I just wrote over at PowerLine — I (there) appeared solely (and finally!) to thank John Hinderaker.

Last cycle (at this point in 2012) — though the Nate Silver numbers were quite similar — he was still drinking the Romney “the polls are wrong” Kool-Aid. So, thanks John — but you knew going in that Mr. Trump was a waiting behavioural disaster. And you did support his birther nonsense from 2012 forward. So each of you at PL bear the weight of this very likely drubbing. The Senate is likely to be in Democratic hands; we will have to wait to see about the US House.

Here is the electoral college (mathematical) way to look at it — per the ever cogent Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight. [See derivative image at right.]

Better luck in 2020 folks. No matter what Trump does in the last two debates — the “possible votes to grab” gap is now too wide, in far too many battle-ground states. He has already lost.
