Trump Is Actively Working FOR An Enemy Dictator, Against America — And Americans… Charming.

There was a time, when even the most ardent partisans (McCarthy; Hoover; or Nixon) put their nation before their political… lunacy.

That time was never known to Tangerine.

It never will be.

So, the only salient question is… how much is Putin paying him (in loans, gifts, pee-tape secrets, or otherwise…) to spew this sort of seditious nonsense?

How much?

What a pig.

Bill Barr THINKS He’s Rehabilitating His Rep — But Confessing To Crimes Is Not “Rehabilitative”.

I don’t want to spill a lot of pixels on this, so I’ll use an old graphic.

Over the weekend past, Bill Barr told Lester Holt on TV that the goal of 01.06.2021 was to “intimidate the Congress” and VP Pence (and also — by commuting Roger Stone — witness tampering).

I guess he’s calculated that admitting what anyone with a working cerebral cortex can discern may return him to the ranks of “serious people” in the GOP. Whatever.

It also happens that admitting to an attempt (even if ultimately non-availing, a day later) to intimidate the Congress or the VP, in delaying or ending a vote count… is a felony. That’s the plain text of 3 U.S.C. §§ 15-18. Of course, he won’t be charged.

But Tangerine might yet be so charged. That’s all I’ve got — on a morning with four inches of new white stuff, but the Sun poking through now. Grinning… ever, grinning.

Hinderaker Lies Tonight About Where The US Gets Its Copper…

Between 2006 and 2021, around 60 percent of all imports of unmanufactured copper to the United States came from Chile. John claims it is… primarily Russia.

Canada and Mexico were other important copper trading allies for the United States.

Not Russia, John. The weight and distance alone — make Russian copper uneconomic. And (to the extent Hinderaker thinks local mining could be restarted), the very heavy overburden in Minnesota’s remaining copper pits… also makes Minnesota non-economic. It is not environmentalism — it is pure Earth moving impossibility that dooms Minnesotan mining.

You see, I know more than just a bit about this — having mined the ore, in Chile, in the late 1970s, in part (along with Moly- mining) to pay for undergrad.

But John simply (again) lies through his teeth.

We are not a major copper purchaser from Russian sources, and Russia is not even really a major factor, globally, any longer.

So sit down, John — your supposed wedge issue is… a lie.

In More “News” That Never Happened: A Russian State TV Outlet Is Showing Russian “Detachment” From ISS…

Let’s be clear: this has NOT happened — and as many have said, it is likely that the Russian Cosmonauts would, if told to do so by Moscow, ignore the order — and catch return rides home, eventually with US or EU crewed missions. They would simply… defect.

I suppose we should prepare for more of this sort of nonsense, out of Moscow. And we should hope that enough real Russians are listening to shortwave EU radio, and/or using WhatsApp… to learn the truth here.

This is the entirely faked video segment. Amazing (primarily for how terrible the CGI is… obviously not real) — as one commenter there, on the YouTube feed, notes:

…While the commentary in the video says that it shows the Zvezda module being detached, the Russian video shows the separation between the Zarya and Unity modules. This would be a major theft by the Russians. For although the Zarya module was built and launched by Russia, it was paid for by NASA and is owned by NASA. If Russia is going to remove their section, they will need to move the Rassvet module from the Zarya to the Zvezda before separating the Zvezda from the Zarya module….

It is going to be far harder in the Web 2.0 age, to fool even “some of the people, some of the time.” Onward, smiling… may head back out, into the high Sonoran desert — around St. Patricks, now….

Ahem, Coindesk. Nope — This Is Not A “Post-Dollar” Hegemony Era, Now Opening. [Sanctions Tangents]

Look — I get that the various maximalists / boosters for Bitcoin and the other cryptos want desperately for the era of the fiat currency controlled world to come to an end.

Hoping that the implosion of Russia’s economy will bring it… is not going to do it. Just as the mythical championing Russian oligarchs’ evasion of sanctions by using it… is not going to, either.

In sum, we are mostly seeing a form of “fiat economies’ unification” — in a crisis — last witnessed in WW II. In many ways, it is giving the “old ways” of protecting freedoms… new vitality, in its unity of mind.

The “old money” world is almost 99% unified in its ostracism of Putin.

And that will not improve Bitcoin’s chances. On any front.

Cheers — baby girls back to their momma’; grown kids’ Zoom in 15 minutes… smile.

Tangerine: “I Hate Everyone I Ever Hired — They Are Incompetent. Not ME!”

This is (strictly speaking) also purely trivia — since we all know the old adage that “A+” people… hire “A+” people.

And since Trump is a “C-” person, he tended to hire… “F’s”. Forever.

Even so, at some point one has to ask… was EVERY person he ever met and hired… that bad?!

Or is he just… that bad?

He’s at least a horrific judge of character — even if we are to believe him.

Out.

Saturday Trivia: Spoken Like A Guy Who Learned NUTHIN’ — From The Experiment In Prohibition…

This morning, Hinderaker would tug at his forelock, and describe all his wisdom… in predicting just this outcome, once weed was legalized, state by state — but now, clearly… headed the same way… as booze, nationally, in the 1940s.

This all is largely trivial, as he complains out of one side of his mouth that an “industry” is being ruined by taxes.

But on the other hand, he’s “morally” (that’s rich!) opposed to legal pot.

I suspect that he’s been drinking brown liquor his entire adult life, and likely before it was lawful for him to so imbibe.

Yet, I don’t think I’ve ever read his piece decrying how taxation “ruined” his “liquor freedom enterprise” industries. [It is just another commodity after all, like weed. We all know, based on cable TV “reality” shows, that moonshiners are not entirely gone — but that’s no reason to oppose legal liquor.]

Legal weed has entered its adolescence — true enough. But to either pretend it will go away, or that he can change the course of history… is just silly.

Silly — and impotent.

Hinderaker Knows… Essentially… Nuthin’. ‘Bout… Nuthin’ — In Wisconsin History.

Tonight, late — he ranted because Marquette has removed a part of its panel which depicted Father Marquette falsely telling an indigenous guide where to take him, to find a safe settlement. The opposite is the truth:

The facts (at least as set out in Marquette’s diary, and) recounted in the painting (from which the seal panel was derived), made long after Marquette’s death, by Wilhelm Alfred Lamprecht, depicts Marquette receiving hospitality, guidance and protection from the Miami tribe. They told him how to safely reach the Mississippi again. They, and the Pottawatomi, fed him wild rices — and stocked his canoe with the same, for the multi-day trip.

So, Marquette University revised the seal — and included wild rice. [This too is deemed an offense to Hinderaker (somehow?), since he is obviously ignorant of the fact that both Jesuit missionaries and the indigenous peoples ate wild rice, in the upper midwest.]

To Hinderaker this removal of the stylized scene is some high offense, of some sort, against his whiteness — I gather. He’s not even Catholic, though. Sheesh.

Sit down, John. Again — as with the Washington football club shield… just… sit down.

In Which Hinderaker Claims There’s “No Science” For Relaxing COVID Restrictions… C’mon, Man!

So we must (tongue firmly in cheek) conclude that the end times are arriving: Hinderaker is defending 1974-era Soviet thinking, and — after being wrong by a ten fold factor on the lethality of COVID in the US… he NOW would tell us that easing COVID restrictions is purely politics, and not science. He shows a version of the same blue chart I have at left, but blithely ignores the decline in daily deaths of late.

More tellingly, though — he ignores the NYT data in green altogether, as it would mean he’d have to admit that we’ve saved perhaps 300,000 lives over the pandemic in the US, via these measures.

And, again — he’d have to admit that his July 19, 2020 prediction of only 110,000 deaths in the US was… completely baseless, thus irresponsible… and immediately correctible. But he never did.

It took 900,000 excess deaths in the US alone, before he could admit he had lied to his readers.

Now he lies to his readers — to make easing restrictions look like a wedge issue. It is not.

It is a science issue.

Sit down Hinderaker.

[Tangent: Space / Solar Science] Parker’s Lithe Craft Appears, Anew…

Just for some Friday fun, we offer a look at the data we expect from the Parker Solar probe, in the next three months — now that it has pierced the heliosphere — the outer atmosphere of the Sun.

This is the only spacecraft presently in service that is named for a living human.

That he’s still on faculty just south of here, still brings a grin to my face — every time it crosses my mind:

…As NASA’s Parker Solar Probe completes its latest swing around the Sun, it’s doing so in full view of dozens of other spacecraft and ground-based telescopes.

These powerful instruments can’t actually see Parker itself – the van-sized spacecraft is far too small for visible detection – but they offer from a distance what the probe is sensing close-up, as it samples and analyzes the solar wind and magnetic fields from as close as 5.3 million miles (8.5 million kilometers) from the Sun’s surface….

Now you know — do go be excellent to one another, this weekend and always — for as the depravity unfolding in Ukraine is teaching us all, daily. . . we are all we’ve got.
