Stranger Things: This December 2011 Post Got Over 10,000 Views, Just During August 2022… Odd.

It was originally posted well-over ten years ago, at 3:11 pm on a snowy December 16, 2011, as I recall. The original title was “Ex-Merck Guy To Clear Path, For Ex-Abbott Guy — At Vertex“… and here — long after the FDA Hep C next-gen approvals, and multi-billion dollar US pharma market dominance battles… it is suddenly the focus of many a search engine query.

But why? I am eternally curious about such things… as almost all the hits are inside the US… and over 70 per cent of those 11,000 or so hits… originated from servers based in Tennessee. HCA and Frist are both substantial presences there. But that is simply a… guess. I do draw a fair bit of traffic on my older stuff, from time to time — but this is about ten times what I would normally expect, here at a decade later. Especially since it didn’t make specific predictions — the ones that did, tend to get traffic well past six years, in steady numbers. [People checking up on my “Nostra-could-be-damus” efforts, I guess. Heh.]

In any event, here is the entirety of that item (really just a “revolving doors” in pharma one — I didn’t even fully name him — and now at least one of the current news reports is no longer retrievable). The ex-Merck guy was named Emmens. Odd:

This is a much tighter circle than the first-glance “six degrees of Kevin Bacon” usual game might otherwise suggest, here — especially given that Vertex’s closest current competitor is Merck itself (well, okay — technically, it’s legacy Schering-Plough, but you know what I mean). [See, Incivek® posts here.]

Here is more, per this morning’s Boston Herald — do go read it all, there — this is a bit of it:

…The front-office shuffle comes as the Cambridge-based company — now building a massive new waterfront headquarters in Boston’s Seaport District — prepares to bring its second drug to market. The Food and Drug Administration has agreed to expedite its review of the first potential treatment targeting the underlying cause of cystic fibrosis.

A board member since 2009, Leiden is a managing director at Clarus Ventures in Cambridge. He previously was president of Abbott Laboratories and has experience as a practicing cardiologist….

Indeed. I still think Vertex has been oversold by Wall Street — it has a clear path (leading the Hep C next-gen state of the art) until at least 2015, in my estimation.

Ed. Note: Huh. Maybe it is that last bit… dunno — but that did turn out true.

Hinderaker Gets One Small Part Right…

He is right tonight, in surmising that there is no reliable Earthly scenario which offers a rational, plausible, prudent, moral and most importantly… lawful reason for Top Secret and national defense / foreign country nuclear capabilities documents to be in the closets, desk drawers and basement of Mar-A-Lago 20 plus months after Tangerine was cashiered — by the people of America (by over 8 million votes).

But then he seriously loses his way, in the wood.

He suggests a pure fantasy, in a Stockholm syndrome like flight of lunacy, he posits that Trump is cooperating with Mr. Biden… in trying to keep this story in the news cycle.

No, John — Trump is the primary one leaking details (details not known to Mr. Bratt since he and his DoJ team mostly don’t have clearance for nuclear secrets), to draw the venom from the stings. The stings of multi-count felony indictments.

Finally, he truly cannot imagine that the GOP will benefit much, by making the mid-terms yet another referendum on Trumpism.

But oddly… he is doing literally nothing to change that narrative arc / outcome.

So I do like that much of what he wrote: if Trump really is trying to make November 2022 about hisself… Democrats will clean up!

So… I say… bring. it. on.

Grinning into the warm clear night, now….

One Unmistakable Sign Of Creeping… Senility [Ridiculous Monday Fodder!]

…Is that the elderly person will try to “force fit” every new experience or event… into a previously-decided matrix.

The mind becomes brittle, in a word. It cannot evaluate new experiences, without “forcing” them to conform to one’s prior biases.

So it is, from a few years ago now (in truth), with Hinderaker.

Overnight he wrote about a wholly-imagined grand Liberal / Democratic conspiracy… [wait for it!] that involves utility customers in Colorado who VOLUNTARILY gave the utility the right to remotely control the Nest, or other internet connected thermostat… in their homes.

They did so in return for a reduction on all their monthly bills, year ’round — agreeing to be hard limited in certain peak demand scenarios. Agreeing in writing. [Remember that bedrock notion of “freedom of contract“, John?!] We may quibble about whether the customers were wise in doing so. But it is sheer lunacy to paint this as a liberal “new world order” solely because most of Colorado’s population leans blue.

Yet that is the ever-present, and forlorn (now, until he departs this blue orb)… Hinderaker. Everything is out to get him; to steal off with his 1940s sensibilities on all matters civic.

Amazing — and sad. He once was a passable intellect.

No longer.

Andrew Weissmann Proposes That DoJ Suggest USDC Magistrate Judge Reinhart As The “Special Master”. BRILLIANT!

Given how unhinged Aileen Cannon’s ruling of yesterday is. . . this is only partly tongue in cheek.

Most competent, honest judges in her shoes would have simply referred any dispute about the felony search warrant, or its execution… to the court that issued it. Especially where a civil remedy was sought by the warrant’s target.

Judge Reinhart did exceptionally well in the Craig “Faketoshi” Wright case, which we closely covered at another property — and mentioned occasionally here. He was practical, quick and balanced. As he has been in the warrant matters, directly. Naming him would certainly speed things along.

We will not bother with much more analysis of her decision, other than to say… she apparently finds a transcendent “property right” (of a THIEF!) in a few photos and news clippings, one that — out of hundreds of STOLEN classified documents… should eclipse the people’s right to return of stolen national defense secrets. STOLEN.

From this, she manages to try to say (impotently, since this power is not hers, sitting as a civil matter, in any event) that the government must stop using the STOLEN documents for any investigative purpose. Unfathomable.

So, I rob a bank of $20 million, in cash; the blue dye pack explodes on several stacks of bills as I exit the bank. I put the whole pallet of bills — including lots of bright blue-dyed ones… in my garage, under a lock and key, in my backyard. But I have $0.79 in loose change on a table in the garage that is actually mine.

The FBI gets a warrant; they come and pick-up all the bills, blue-dyed and not so. And inadvertently, they scoop the seventy-nine cents off the table.

Judge Cannon would say that even after FBI handed back all of the $0.79, it cannot continue to investigate who else might be involved (holding blue bills, for example, in the neighborhood) on a $20 million pile of STOLEN property… because… less than a buck was picked up in error. See the problem here? Damn. Just… damn.

Out.

Y A W N. Judge Cannon’s Not Gonna’ Matter. Much…

As we’ve long said, this all is based on some pretty clear mis-interpretations of well settled Supreme Court law ever since Nixon was decided.

But as expected, Aileen Cannon, as a Tangerine appointee, has now definitively let this “crazy quilt” of a supposed civil “equitable” action in the court house doors. In the end, it won’t matter.

Afterall, at equity, “one’s hands must be clean“, to invoke the court’s discretionary (judge made, non statutory) powers — one must have acted with honesty in fact, and in good faith. Tangerine’s hands here… clearly are not, now that we know of months of obstruction, and lies about whether all the top secret national defense documents had been returned… and the photos of top secret documents hidden in closets, and personal office desk drawers — with Roger Stone’s pardon (and some supposed dirt on Macron).

Even so, were I sitting in Merrick Garland’s seat, I might not bother to appeal her ruling. I might just move forward, with all the other, voluntary evidence, from the June 3, 2022 meeting. Just cut. to. the. chase. There’s an orgy of… evidence of crimes.

To be clear, these would all be jailable offenses, were it not a former occupant of 1600 Penn. we were talking about.

And in the end, Tangerine will see just that outcome — an indictment (likely using only the documents VOLUNTARILY turned over in June). Still multiple felonies — a potential life sentence, for him — and we the people get our top secret documents back. Game over.

Hinderaker Shilling Once Again For Putin — This Time, Upcoming Swedish Parliamentary Elections…

Next week, Swedes go to the polls, with several radical right, semi fascist candidates running in parliamentary election slots.

So, as ever — and as Putin would wish — Hinderaker tries to discredit the opposition to fascism.

Damn. This… f-ing gu-u-u-y.

Hinderaker claims that legitimately “contesting” elections in Sweden should include… openly racist and bigoted tropes and lies, despite such talk being… a crime — unlawful in the country.

John thinks our First Amendment must apply in… Sweden. It does not.

Inside Sweden most of Trump’s (and John’s) jingoistic anti-immigrant rants would be crimes, if uttered in politicking for elected office. See, Swedish Penal code, Brottsbalken, chapter 16, section 8 (at pages 66 to 71 of that PDF).

[Such an ignoramus, this decrepit wrinkly Dakotan.]

No, for better or worse, our rambunctious chaotic freedoms are not law there.

So… John advocates criminal lawlessness — just like an ugly American (or Russian oligarch) ignorant of local morals and customs might.

What a clueless… tool.

The “Dark Brandon” Speech Thursday Has Shifted The Seas — Put The MAGAts… On Defensive.

Look, when Tangerine spends his precious rally “adulate me” time, countering the themes eloquently expressed in Mr. Biden’s speech at Freedom Hall, in Philadelphia… you know… he’s been rattled, to his core.

Of course, the looming certainty of a multi-count felony indictment’s unsealing(s), one which will likely send him away for what (for him) will be natural life… could ALSO be a contributing factor. I dunno.

But I count no fewer than nine (with just a few of the others… here, and here, and here…) separate posts from the dolts at PowerLine, decrying one or another aspect of the speech. That alone suggests… the punches… landed.

No doubt: the GOP is no longer favored to gain control of… any national chamber, at the mid-terms. And it may lose more than a few governor seats, in purple-ish states.

Maybe… even Texas, after the lunacy from Abbott last night.

So… suck that boys. It is all very droll — “can dish it, but canna’ take it….”

Out.

So, Now The Governor Of Texas — By Edict, Says Who May — And May Not Get Emergency Plan B Health Care?!?

I think even the hard-core GOOPers in Texas… are going to awaken now.

Here we have an aging, medically infirm, non medically-trained, non-licensed pure politician telling all the doctors in the state of Texas, and all the emergency workers… that HE ALONE will decide who gets prosecuted, for “allowing” a woman to take a Plan B pill in the case of forcible rape. [And he will prosecute the woman and the doctor, if she won’t swear out a police report on her rapist — even if it puts her at risk of death, by his hand.]

That is, Greg Abbott ALONE (as in Tsarist Russia of old) will decide what is… forcible “enough“… to count as a rape?! Just forget… that whole idea of an independent judiciary in Texas.

Sweet Fancy Moses. This is pure insanity, on the hoof.

He alone will decide who will go to jail for allowing a Plan B dosing?!

Dammit people — if that doesn’t ring in as… insane… I don’t know what to say to you all.

But I will say… the MAGA-GOP will fail — in large numbers — in national elections, in the mid-terms… if these are their espoused policies.

Out.

About 6,000 Years Ago, This “Odd Bird” Appeared — In The Constellation Gaia…

We have ourselves another [long weekend] mystery:

Not when.

Not where. . . we know those answers — 6,000 light years off, in Gaia.

But. . . precisely. . . how?

How, in 4200 BCE, did this nearly rectangular set of shockwaves. . . remarkably evenly spaced, and thus precisely. . . periodic, in time. . .

Come to be — in a Universe absolutely. . . dominated by near-circles. . . or slight elipses.

We should see. . . at least roughly circular, or spiral. . . arms — but we don’t.

How?

How — indeed?
