More, On Electioneering: Paul Sez Tangerine Is Paying “Turning Point USA” — For A Ground Game?! Hilarious!

This morning, in the course of all but admitting that the TP USA contract signed with Trumpworld RNC/GOP is a “grift” to move money to Charlie Kirk (is this where Baby T’s will land after the ‘24 loss?)… Mirengoff does set out some other truths.

First, Tangerine is likely 10 to one behind on field offices, in swing states.

Second (a corollary, actually) Mr. Biden has a deep, well-oiled, rolling and wide spread ground game underway in each swing state.

Third, his sentence is likely going to awaken even very low information independents.

Finally, we all know negative ads work well in the last two weeks. The ones Mr. Biden will run… will ruin Tangerine’s chances — solely on jury decided FACTS.

Separately, by Sunday night, Karl Rove had this:

“The movement is among independents,” said Rove, who helped lead George W. Bush’s two presidential campaigns. “And they have moved, in recent polls, roughly nine points towards Biden.”

Rove noted that polls of independents have previously found that 21 percent have said they would be less likely to vote for Trump if he’s convicted…

Voting is, afterall… a jury’s final outcome. A jury with about 240 million members (eligible voting age adults). Fully eight million are new voters — turned 18, since 2020… and about 64 per cent of them are people of color. That’s just lethal to Trumpworld.

He’s… DOA — and Paul all but admits this today.

Out.

“No Sh!t, Sherlock!?” — Hinderaker, Again…

So… it is a well documented fact that Rasmussen over-samples GOP households — well beyond their actual representation in the US population of voting age.

And when one “primes the pump” with negative, and leading questions — on say immigration, the proof is legion that a “head to head” follow up question will favor the GOP candidate, in a distorted fashion (since the questions are always asked in the step order): rile ‘em up, then ask “Biden… or Tangerine?”

Sheesh. So yes John, that poll is less than meaningless.

But when John says “reality” is NOT that Trump is a convicted felon… he’s… utterly lost it. That Rasmussen is this desperate, this early… tells you that they know… he’s a dead ball in the high weeds, once sentenced.

This “felony convictions” mantra will matter to undecideds — and it will end… Trump ‘24, completely.

What a tool. Out.

Mirengoff Seems To Think That He Gets To Decide — For Us All… What’s “An Idea”.

The sophistry of deciding (for everyone) “what qualifies as an “idea” — and what is simply evil incarnate… has long been the hallmark of leaders of… repressive states.

And no, we do not support Hamas. But as they often said of Rome, the notion of a state of “Palestine”… is an idea. A dream, even.

And it need not be antithetical to… the “idea”, or “dream” of what makes up… Israel. So long as “Israel” is not defined by the eradication of… Palestinians.

If Paul is honest, that is the only path forward. Mutuality.

“…Better To Die For An Idea That Will Live… Than To Live For An Idea That Will Die… — Bantu Steven Biko

There is over 2,300 years worth, of long trails of blood, and bone, in the sand, on both sides… to suggest his version… doesn’t work. At all. [And in truth, before 1948, a mere eye-blink ago — most of the sufferers were… what became the Israelis. Or… Israelites, if you prefer.]

How can Paul not accept what his own Torah has taught him?

Boeing Starliner: NASA To Take More Time Evaluating Helium Leak Data, From Ride “Uphill”

[Modified legacy graphic. This is more of a crewed return… stand-down, of sorts.] When human cargo is involved, there is zero readon to rush a de-orbit.

And so, the June 26 ride home has effectively become sometime after the July 4 holidays. Suni and Butch get about a month more of space time that originally forecast — in this encore trip to ISS — and I’m fairly certain they love that.

This will allow an agency level review, and an express vote of confidence for the trip home. Here’s the latest:

.,.NASA and Boeing leadership are adjusting the return to Earth of the Starliner Crew Flight Test spacecraft with agency astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams from the International Space Station. The move off Wednesday, June 26, deconflicts Starliner’s undocking and landing from a series of planned International Space Station spacewalks while allowing mission teams time to review propulsion system data. Listen to a full replay of the June 18 media briefing where NASA and Boeing leadership discussed the ongoing efforts.

“We are taking our time and following our standard mission management team process,” said Steve Stich, manager of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. “We are letting the data drive our decision making relative to managing the small helium system leaks and thruster performance we observed during rendezvous and docking. Additionally, given the duration of the mission, it is appropriate for us to complete an agency-level review, similar to what was done ahead of the NASA’s SpaceX Demo-2 return after two months on orbit, to document the agency’s formal acceptance on proceeding as planned….”

Ahem. That said, I think we all agree: take whatever time you need — to get it right. I doubt that the craft is in any manner unsafe, but if it is… then auto firing it out past the Moon (empty) and arranging another ride home would be wildly preferable, to any de-orbit anomaly / accident. Onward.

In The “Don’t Be A D!ck” Files: Too Soon, John?! Sorry Your… Winter “Barbeque” Got Out Of Hand…

This morning, ever the feckless putz, Hinderaker feels taunting about a war, about 80 years later… is perfectly okay at a soccer match (one the Brits would have lost, without OUR help BTW). [That is, the evidence is overwhelming that the Brits would be living in a Nazi-state / world now, had we not made the Best Generation’s sacrifices. Truth is, we might be, as well. But that is, as they say… a time out of mind.]

No — this is on John’s general propensity to be a churlish dick.

He lauds the British soccer hooligans singing a song solely to humiliate Germans who had nothing to do with Nazism, about the darkest days of some of their grandads’ pasts.

Charming.

So — turnabout is always fair play, when dealing with putzes.

Hey John — sorry the burgers were burned when your propane tanked / faked bar-b-q went awry in late January. I realize you have many enemies, but how is it possible that the cops haven’t figured out who did it?

Could it be… that the cops don’t feel particularly motivated to solve these cases — where racist dicks… are the putative victims?

Gee… I wonder.

Of geese, and gander, John. Geese — and gander. Um… too soon?!

Out.

In The “Do As I Say — Not As I… Did” Files: 1969 Edition.

Hey John — at Dartmouth, in 1969, the charges were dropped before the semester ended, as well — right? Right — you saw no lasting adult consequences, right? Right.

You stormed and held a university administration building for three days. Parkhurst — taken by forced entry, right?

But tonight, you yammer on and on — derisively, calling for a new Civil War — as charges are dropped, in the Columbia occupations / building takeover of this Spring.

I’m… pretty sure your a$$ is showing son. [That is, reasonable people may disagree about the Columbia students’ tactics, but it is reductio (false logic) to argue that all it was… was antisemitism. In fact, was Hinderaker’s sole and central goal in 1969… to mock our servicemen then dying outside Hanoi? Nope. Of course not. He was protesting our lack of a real reason to be there, and our imperialism — there. So too, the people advocating for Gazans’ rights to… exist. Sheesh.]

Out.

Bill Otis Again Leaps — Before He… Looks. Y A W N.

This afternoon, he churlishly tells us the 34 count conviction “didn’t move the needle” on voters in favor of Tangerine. Maybe — but that is only about a fifth of the voting adults in the USA.

He’s not seen any data (as it is not yet decided!), as to what a sentence looks like — let alone the sensible polling after, if that outcome… includes house arrest or jail time.

So… he should probably be quiet. But rest assured, he won’t be.

Common sense says that the middle two thirds of the nation… is very likely to find the idea of a felon awaiting jail as a “bad look” for the occupant of 1600 Penn.

Yes — Bill Otis… is a moron. Most sensible (non-Rasmussen) polling has it as a dead heat, with both candidates below 46% on approval ratings.

This is a close race — but in time, post Milwaukee’s convention… the stench of the conviction and sentence will hang in the air, around the undecideds — they will not vote for a felon… even if they believe Mr. Biden is at grandad stage — that won’t be disqualifying like the crime spree will be (as an incentive to sell America out for a buck, since he may go to jail on any of 93 charges, eventually).

Bad News / Good News Department: Cancer Rates Are Increasing In US; But “Survivability” Data Is Improving As Well…

This is a much broader study, and to be sure it is worrisome that so many Gen X-ers are showing cancers, and earlier in life, to boot.

But the deeper data may well suggest that it is not a generational variable at play. Across all age groups, for example, kidney and prostate cancer diagnoses / rates are rising (could be better detection, in part). Here’s the NPR take on it all, and a bit:

…The increases for Generation X over Baby Boomers appeared in all racial and ethnic groups except Asian or Pacific Islander men, who were less likely to be diagnosed with cancer at age 60 if they were Gen-Xers than Baby Boomers.

Douglas Corley, chief research officer for the Permanente Medical Group and a Kaiser gastroenterologist in San Francisco, sees generational divisions for cancer trends as “somewhat artificial,” he said in an email.

Over the past century, for example, the incidence of kidney cancer has increased steadily in young Americans. “So it is not that being part of a particular more recent generation puts you at risk,” he said. “It is not that one generation was necessarily exposed to something that others born one generation earlier were not. It is a year-by-year change….”

“It is absolutely essential to invest in cancer-prevention research,” she said.

Corley also pointed to obesity, increasingly sedentary lifestyles and early cancer detection as part of the picture too.

He also said it’s worth noting that the new study does not examine cancer death rates. For most cancers, earlier detection and better treatment have improved survival, Corley said….

Now you know, but do go read it all — for the more nuanced take-aways. Smiling, into a cooler sunshine (as we wait to see whether Martin Shkreli makes a Supremes filing by tomorrow night — or defaults out, on his lifetime ban).

An Iowa USDC Judge Has Enjoined A Measure Much Like Texas SB-4, So USDC Judge Ezra In West Texas Just Made The Fifth Circuit Aware Of This…

Technically, the able Senior Judge Ezra let the parties — the State of Texas, and various agencies of the federal government know that he has read the Iowa decision / opinion.

But the import is unmistakable: with the Fifth Circuit having upheld the injunction against SB-4, out of Texas previously, he wanted the courts and the parties to know that the Eighth Circuit is likely also to enjoin the Iowa version of this nonsense.

Here’s a bit — but do read the full 27 pager:

…The crucial question is whose interest prevails in a situation where the United States and State of Iowa are on opposite sides of the case, as both sides can credibly claim injury to the public when they are enjoined from executing their respective laws as they see fit. See Texas, 97 F.4th at 295-96 (recognizing that both the United States and Texas face potential irreparable harm). The Fifth Circuit held that in the areas of immigration and foreign affairs, it is the federal interest that prevails, as “ state and local interests are subservient to those of the nation at large.” Id. at 296 (citing Hines v.Davidowitz, 312 U.S. 52 , 63–64 (1941)). The Fourth and Eleventh Circuits agree….

The United States and Iowa MMJ Plaintiffs have established a likelihood of success on the merits of their position that federal immigration law preempts Senate File 2340 under both conflict and field preemption. For this reason, and because the remaining preliminary injunction factors also weigh in favor of injunctive relief, the Court GRANTS the motions for preliminary injunction filed by the United States and Iowa MMJ Plaintiffs in their respective cases. Defendants are hereby ENJOINED from enforcing Senate File 2340 pending further proceedings.

IT IS SO ORDERED.

Dated: June 17, 2024….

This is indeed fitting fodder for a Juneteenth morning, out of West Texas.

Onward.

Some Life Science Research Underway, In Orbit — On ISS — By Suni and Butch… Latest NASA Updates.

While awaiting a new June 24 greenlight for a series of spacewalks, the international team is staying busy, above.

Specifically, with some DNA sequencing / life sciences work. Here’s that bit:

…Starliner crewmates Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams focused their Tuesday research activities on a treatment for respiratory conditions and DNA sequencing to identify microbes living on spacecraft.

Wilmore worked in the Harmony module performing sample operations and videotaping liquid flows to improve the transport of liquid drugs in human airways. Afterward, Williams also worked in Harmony and sequenced microbial and fungal DNA samples collected from station water systems. Results may advance crew health, increase spacecraft safety, and upgrade health care systems on Earth….

Now you know… onward — grinning. It is toasty out there today!
