Note That Hinderaker Doesn’t Even Hint That He Might Ask Trump To Do… Anything, Re Putin. He’s Aware… That’s Futile.

John Hinderaker has finally mentioned that Russia has been attacking… Germany. And that Germany says it is not at peace with Putin. But it is not at war, either.

Welp. Here’s the lunacy — by conspicuous silence.

Were this the Reagan or Bush years, Hinderaker would shout for — and get at least blistering bully-pulpit speeches out of 1600 Penn, against the evil aggressors from Moscow.

Here, he doesn’t even peep about it — he knows Tangerine 2.0 is a dead letter, as to standing up to the Russian aggression.

So he just… clutches his pearls, and speaks ever so softly, through his clenched teeth.

Damnation — what a putz.

  1. Meanwhile, William Otis returns to his favorite hobbyhorse today, once again condescendingly arguing that the United States doesn’t have an overincarceration problem.

He disingenously summarizes the opposition’s position like so:

Criminals are victims and people like you and me are the victimizers. If you thought that getting a switchblade jammed against your neck in order to relieve you of your wallet was the sort of thing that justifies the mugger’s trip to the slammer, this just shows that you need to get your mind right.

Sigh. No, Bill. That’s not the argument, but it might be useful to consider the systemic economic imbalances that drive crime, or is that too complicated?

Then he makes a startling claim:

I personally could care less about the race of people going to prison, since their placement there is a result of their behavior, not their race.

Well, it seems to matter to him a bit when the person going to prison is white, but maybe that’s just a coincidence. In any case, Bill fails to consider (or maybe even grasp) the fact that punishment for equivalent crimes varies sharply from race to race. Look at the stark difference in punishment for possession of crack cocaine (typically a black offender) to possession of powder cocaine (typically a white offender). Bill was a prosecutor. He knows this. But he’s apparently decided that it doesn’t matter—or at least that it doesn’t support his argument.

Then Bill turns to his favorite tactic when discussing this topic:

Approximately 1.21 million prisoners are currently incarcerated in the U.S., 93% of them by the states. The population of the United States is about 342.8 million, meaning that less than four-tenths of one percent of the population is in prison. Four-tenths of one percent isn’t mass anything — which is why the Left typically stays away from actual numbers and gives you their angst-ridden characterizations instead.

Speaking of staying away from actual numbers, Bill consistently and diligently fails to acknowledge that the United Sates has the fifth highest incarceration rate in the world, behind El Salvador , Cuba , Rwanda, and Turkmenistan. Fine company that.

Finally, while Bill goes on and on about violent offenders, he fails to acknowledge (or maybe grasp) the fact that roughly 50% of people incarcerated in this country right now were imprisoned for non-violent offenses.

As with JH, it’s sometimes hard to determine if BO is staggeringly dishonest or merely staggeringly stupid. It helps to understand that it’s both.

    1. Otis strikes me as a silver spoon racist — he grew up in country club society — where polite people discuss it all in very polite terms, but he is the same as the guys that wear the sheets. Or march under swastika festooned banners.

He’s no better than them — nor is Hinderaker.

But they’ll tell you they are.

Don’t you believe it, dear readers — Rigby and I well know their kind.

      Onward.
