A dose of reality, from EmptyWheel, this afternoon:
…After three years of concerted propaganda effort (from the hard right), thin majorities still believe:
January 6ers were “mostly violent” (50%)
Punishments for Jan6ers have been fair or not harsh enough (73%)
Trump bears responsibility for January 6 (53%)
DOJ is treating Trump like anyone else (57%)
Trump telling his mob to march to the Capitol threatened democracy (51%)
The mob entering the Capitol threatened democracy (58%)
Congress voting against certifying the election threatened democracy (53%)
The attack on the Capitol should never be forgotten (55%)
There is no solid evidence of widespread voter fraud (63%)
Only on whether Trump’s role disqualifies him for the presidency (or Republican members of
Congress who voted to disqualify votes) did less than a majority vote for democracy (46%)….And… there are about 7% of Republicans who recognize that Trump was in the wrong. Most independents agree with Democratic views on January 6, not Republicans….
Thank you EmptyWheel!

Every single time Hinderaker writes a post about January 6, he emphasizes that “not a single person arrested that day possessed a firearm” — or slight variations thereof, but always careful to use the word “firearm” rather than “weapon,” because many, many rioters were carrying weapons, including stun guns, pepper spray, and baseball bats. The reason none of them were carrying “firearms,” of course, was that they all had to pass through a metal detector before attending Trump’s rally, something Trump complained bitterly about on the day, asserting, “They’re not here to shoot ME.” In other words, Trump was openly hoping for bloodshed.
Hinderaker knows all this, of course, but he’s seemingly incapable of writing about this topic (or any topic) honestly.

You are 110% spot on here!
He is almost always dishonest in his rhetoric — on almost all topics — but especially about J6ers.
Damn.
Thanks for checking in!
Onward….
