The problem is that the guy who “resigned” is a known prankster. It’s right in his bio. Stupid, John. Quite… gullible, at that. End update.
This decline in logical, consistent reasoning capacity, at Hinderaker’s keyboard… is comical.
In the front part of this post, he thinks Twitter is a monopoly, and deserving of deeply intrusive regulation (like a water-, gas- or electric- utility, he says!). Forget that such a stance is deeply antithetical to actual conservative principles… and just focus on the notion that Trump/Devin Nunes launched one without any capital, or a whit of an idea how to do it — as did gab [dot] com, and of course… the notorious Mercer- and Russian- backed versions of Parler.
Not really any form of monopoly at all, right? At least not in any competent lawyers’ telling: we see three idiots; little capital and yet it yields… three social media outfits. Competitors. That John admits Trump’s has already failed… in no manner contradicts that the actual competitive field here is… wide open.
No, as Hinderaker is (apparently) no longer smart enough to understand, the problem for Trump, Parler and Gab is that… the IDEAS they promote… won’t resonate.
Generalized misogyny, pro-violent gun attacks, championing white separatism ideals, false racial identities and fake histories — jingoism and racism… with a strong dash of antisemitism in the case of gab’s crowd… along with hard x-tian hate on a wide spectrum of topics… is why they fail.
In sum, they espouse, at least permit and often condone… odious behavior, not just pure speech.
All the while advocating death penalties for women who get abortions — same for the doctors who provide this often life-saving service.
In the back half of his piece, Hinderaker then proves, without a doubt, that he cannot understand SEC Schedule 13G filings.
Elon Musk has specifically avoided the otherwise required disclosures, under Section 13, if he wanted to affect changes in policies at Twitter, with his investment. That is — he’s required to state his intentions.
His silence means John (yup!) is wrong here, as well. No surprise.
So, it seems almost gratuitous to point out that in one breath Hinderaker hopes for Elon’s total control of Twitter’s policies on hatred and lying about critical health matters… while hoping for a monopoly nowhere in evidence, so that he might see freedom to run a private club… (in the way the owners believe most likely to make sustainable profits, and a pleasant experience in so doing)… snuffed by regulators.
Actually… in that respect… Hinderaker sounds like… Vladimir Lenin, of a century past.
Charming, John… simply charming. Your whole worldview is falling apart around you — and the logical contradictions you now daily espouse… prove it.
