[I will also note in passing that Hinderaker opined this evening that much of the 1960s music was positive and upbeat (he was referencing the death of Michael Nesmith). True. He meant it as a criticism of most harder edge rap, or “protest rap” if you prefer — of today.
But without Marvin Gaye and Eddy Starr and Barry McGuire and Nina Simone… John Hinderaker would have no reason to live — no reason to write, and no lucrative post-law ultra-hard right “public interest” lobbying firm “think” tank to run.] So he should just say “thank you, 1960s — you saved my life — I would be long-dead, about 55 years ago” (having been drafted), and then shot dead, in some forlorn rice paddy in Vietnam, Laos or Cambodia… had it not been for the above artists.
In sum, these artists saved his life, by causing in no small measure, the end of our involvement in Vietnam. So, he ought to just… sit down.
