It is a constant refrain of John’s — whenever a moment arrives, in which it becomes clear his long-lost “white males are supreme” philosophy is dying out, in America. He usually finds something new to complain about, shortly enough — as ever — but this time… he’s ready to throw in the towel, on the improbable dream that is… America.
He has previously suggested all he wants is… freedom, freedom to be left alone, as an ornery old cuss.
But here on Sunday evening, for the first time (to my memory), he calls for his freedom… to be transformed into… sedition. Simply stated, to recreate the Confederate States of America.
Precious.
But his patently silly idea — such as it is — misses quite a bit, even as to basic assumptions. Several of the states he posits (as potentially former members) of his new CSA… aren’t really going to be interested in joining. He relies on the map as it existed at the peak of Reaganism, in the mid 1980s.
As irony would have it, Trump’s hideous non-policies, long supported by John, have now clearly drawn many away — from the former GOP/Tea Party. [They cannot abide the racism, and religious intolerance — even if they like the idea of free stuff, from Daddy Trump.]
By my Kentucky-windage / rough reckoning, his Red America would control less than 11 per cent of the GDP of these United States, if realistically evaluated. Oil might be the single exception. But tech, autos, shipping, forestry, and most industrial / foodstuffs agriculture will wither under Trumpain tariff lunacy — and thus decline to join John’s CSA. So… I guess… my reaction is:
“Sure John — go for it. But be careful what you wish for.”
Your neo-confederacy will be a sad little vassal state, to these United States. You will have to beg the rest of us (real “e pluribis unum” Americans)… for essentially everything — but gasoline.
