Ahem… I know I’d be smarter to simply ignore the nonsense one Candace Owens-Farmer tries to spin up into conflagrations — ones worthy of her increasingly odds-on favorite leading role, as the Twitterverse’s resident “Auntie Ruckus”…
But Hinderaker took up for her again (mis-stating the predicate facts, yet again), today… so it’s “middle of the fairway” on topic here now.
John and Candace intentionally distort two business decisions: one odious — one noble — to claim internet censorship of conservative viewpoints. Bunk.
What actually happened was a pungent bar owner threatened to raise drink prices through July, since the protesters were crimping his newly reopened business. He also sniffed that any of his employees that attended a protest… ought to resign (implying he’d fire them if they didn’t resign). Piggish behavior, that. But (just barely) within his rights, legally.
Then… Auntie Ruckus heard about this poor victimized racist bar owner. So, Candace started a GoFundMe — for his bar. When the responsible adults at GoFundMe read of the actual dispute’s genesis (imaged at right — that a barkeep’s job was being threatened for supporting protests)… Candace’s fundraiser was pulled — the money sent on and Candace was told to pack her Ruckus Show, and move it to… some other venue.
[In fact, John’s own tech guy hawked the availability of his own knock-off version of GoFundMe, inside Hinderaker’s own post — openly suggesting it would take up racists’ causes! So… there are… alternatives (no monopoly power).]
In any event, any decision to refuse to raise money for haters like these is also a valid exercise of business discretion / decision — but charging higher cocktail prices to people who support the protesters treads perilously close to invidious racial discrimination in a public accommodation (which is unlawful, even in Alabama).
This was no private members only club, as I understand the facts.
So… all the nonsense bleating about Orwellian thought policing — by Candace and John… really ought to be aimed at Parkside and/or Mr. Dykes, who apparently threatens his employees — for supporting racial tolerance, and fair community policing.
That isn’t censorship — and no one (not even the shiny, faux-fabled Ms. Owens-Farmer) has a right to demand the public buy their drinks from… a jerk.
She created and saw funded, with over a fifth of a million dollars… a private bailout fund, for a racist jerk bar owner. Charming.
That some moral people… refuse to accept HER sham business, seeing through her as a jerk, herself… should come as a scant surprise.
But she and John forever seek high and holy victim status, even as they act as discriminatory / exclusionary… jerks. Their snowflake complaint? “Our views are being… marginalized. Gee… it sure is puzzling, that their 16th Century notions… have seen squandered — any intellectual currency, they once possessed.
Just as irony would imagine it.
Onward, to a better week. Lights-out!
