This is a new low: I gather from his, Hinderaker believes if a pregnant woman from China kills someone while visiting the US… she would not be “subject to US jurisdiction” — that is, could not be arrested and tried here.
In order to believe that the Fourteenth Amendment doesn’t create birthright citizenship… that is what he has to espouse.
Rubbish. The Amendment does create citizenship at birth.
His contrary lunacy… of tonight, is just that: lunacy — of an aging, sadly addled mind.
A mind that wants people to “get off his lawn“.
Funny thing: it was never “his” lawn, in the first place. He just wishes — like his boy, Trump — that he could prohibit the various things he doesn’t like. Things ordered liberty guarantees.
That is… the Constitution expressly protects… those same ideas and values.
So his rant is (as ever)… an impotent set of largely incoherent ravings. The amendment means that people present in the US at birth are subject to the US law, and that they may in turn choose citizenship here — of right, if born here.
It is simple grammar — well drafted — and crystal clear.
John’s nonsense won’t change it — and the Supremes will never hold his tortured fantasy readings… to be good law.
Here endeth the lesson.
