As we repeatedly predicted he would, he is already walking back his “Trump exonerated” lies.
Actually — and strictly speaking — they weren’t lies per se, because John could not have by then read the report — back when he said those nutty things. He relied on the lying Bill Barr.
And now we know just how feckless both John and Bill… are.
But let’s get to it; Hinderaker says:
“…If Trump had really wanted to obstruct the investigation, he could simply have terminated it…. the administration fully cooperated with the investigation in every way….”
Um. Remind me, here John — did Trump ever give that promised one-on-one live interview with Mr. Mueller or his team? Nope — he stalled for over a year, while he found plenty of “presidenting availability” for for over 100… golf dates.
So… clearly, that is not “fully cooperating.” Liar.
Even so, John goes on to admit this:
“…Mueller described ten actions by President Trump that could be construed as attempts to obstruct the investigation….”
That’s John’s… opening walkback — more certainly will come — as the House Judiciary Committee gets the less redacted version, and moves forward…. Ten. TEN. John — that is not “in the clear.” [The victim had at least ten separate stab-wounds, but the knife-wielding perp… is in the clear, John?]
John then goes immediately forward to conclude, preposterously — and wrongly — that Mr. Barr, as AG, gets to decide whether to prosecute — on those ten obstruction counts. John sniffs that “Barr has already determined, in his role as AG, that there was no obstruction….” Precious. Simply precious.
Barr is speaking solely as a private citizen, there — and offering his personal opinions, here, this morning. Partisan opinions.
Barr has no legitimate role, from now on, in deciding whether the Congress moves to pursue Trump [and Barr, as well, now for John Mitchell style interference].
And Hinderaker well knows it.
So we may read his as more hopes, and prayers — as he whistles past the graveyard… than any lawyer’s reasoned view.
But we are unsurprised. John is a partisan hack, exclusively, now.
Onward. Let the able House Speaker do her job — and do it well.
