Geo. H. W. Bush Will Vote Clinton 2016. PowerLine? Crickets.

whopperline-bush-41-votes-hrc-2016I want to just briefly note for the record here that while it seems Bush 41 always thought pretty highly of Hillary R. Clinton, it took the likes of a petulant man-child at the GOP for that former Republican President to come out and vote for her. To switch parties, that is.

While PowerLiners will never mention it, this is a big deal. Why?

Because Bush 41 is voting on principles. True, he is only one man — but when a former commander in chief from one’s own party disavows the chosen candidate so openly, one ought to take heed.

Certainly, he would have rather voted for Jeb, had that been an option, but he is now confirming that he will — like George Will — vote for HRC. And that is in no way dismissable as “sour grapes” — about Jeb’s loss.

No — it is about principles of pluralism. An American virtue that Donald Trump clearly sees as a… vice.

I strongly suspect that Donald Trump has effectively killed whatever the GOP once was.

I don’t think it matters whether this party keeps that name. The party of Bush 41 and Ronald Reagan is… now gone.

It has left the building. Those two former Presidents were never going to be my chocie in any head to head election, and I almost never split ticket vote — as I almost never see a Republican that shares my core values. SO I suppose I shouldn’t care too much that Trump has killed the GOP.

But I do think whatever replaces it is likely to be meaner, more small-minded and less principled than either of those two former Presidents were.

And so, purported real conservatives like those who write at PowerLine ought to be discussing it.

And all we hear are… Late Indian Summer crickets. Now you know.
