I write this evening primarily to laugh at John Hinderaker… and his endless historical self-revision.
Even so, there is a bit of a serious undertone here: I suspect — but cannot verify — that Mr. Hinderaker, too (albeit privately) found this morning’s Russian/Putin “agitprop” salvo the last straw. In the morning’s story, Mr. Putin offered to produce Russian-sourced transcripts — ostensibly to exonerate Mr. Trump, in the Russian investigation.
To be sure — that is masterful Russian propaganda: offering the US Congress Russian government resources, to help Mr. Trump hold on to his office — for at least a little while.
Genius, in the sheer audacity of it! But now, setting aside Mr. Putin’s nonsense — let us consider what this says about the state of our fine, old and venerated Republic: the US Congress may at present be (at least marginally effectively)… trolled, by the Russian monarch (falsely styled as a President, himself).
Why? Because the 45th President has gone out of his way to sidle up, and play kissy-face with him. [And that is the most charitable spin any one can put upon Mr. Trump’s actions, taken as a whole.]
Our vulnerability to being trolled, or “agit-propped“, is a direct result of the amateurish positions our rank amateur President has taken, and continues to take. [Again, that is with a rosy lens of charitability on his on the record remarks.]
And tonight, like many Republicans in private, I suspect, Mr. Hinderaker is admitting what the rest of us long knew. This man — 45 — is unfit. John writes (significantly revising his own more recent prior history, but who really cares? At least he’s right, for the moment!):
“...During the campaign, I warned against nominating an amateur for president. The presidency, I wrote, is not an entry-level position. What we are seeing is partly the result of Trump’s unique personality, but I think it is more the consequence of his inexperience in politics…. [Editor’s comment: Uh-huh. ya’ think?!]
…The Democrats would love to drive Trump from office, but they can’t do it without the collaboration of Republicans. [Editor’s note: that came tonight, with Independent/Special Counsel Mueller’s appointment by the Deputy US AG.] If Republicans focus on legislating rather than wringing their hands over the latest… White House scandal, they can start making progress again….”
Remind me — what have they actually done? Right. Nuthin’. Zip. Nada. AHCA is DOA. All “non-advisory” Executive Orders are — steadily foundering, on constitutional grounds.
Just the same, it is probably some good proof that the GOP ship is starting to right itself, and sail away from the Pumpkin-hued hurricane — if the barnacle-encrusted dingy being pulled behind it, by about a half mile of frayed, rotting hemp rope… called “HMS Hinderaker,” is finally expressing concern — about Mr. Trump’s continued grip on power.
And even he is FINALLY beginning to row away from 45’s lunacy.
I love it. Thanks John — welcome back to the land of the living.
