Steve Hayward Offers A Single 1958 Milton Friedman Letter…

It is often said (by real scientists — i.e., not the Powerline boys!) that “the singular of data… is called… an anecdote.”

And this noontime on Memorial Day 2022, Steve offers one admittedly noble letter, from 1958 (about cancelling some conference hotel reservations to avoid supporting apartheid-era New Orleans!), as if it would refute… nine centuries worth of western economic theories (and practices) built in no small part on forced, unpaid labor from enslaved people.

The idiocy… of Hayward here, is self-mocking.

But, consider, then… a more sober telling:

The racism we are fighting today was originally conjured to justify working unfree Black people, often until death, to generate extravagant riches for … all the ancillary white people … who earned their living and built their wealth from that free Black labor….
