I’m looking at you, Steve Hayward [and Heather Mac (space) Donald]. And I debated about not giving any oxygen to these two malignant twerps. But here you go:
Because, in a similarly-lunacy laced fashion, Hayward argues that an increase in homicides in some Black communities… is due to whyte reactions to what he calls “the George Floyd death“.
There’s been a set of state and federal jury verdicts, son.
M U R D E R.
Do try to keep up — or read a paper, it was mentioned once or twice.
It was a murder by cops. And… just as with the auto accident data — the spikes happened to coincide, in large part… with the pandemic.
But he doesn’t argue that car crashes in Black communities were due to COVID-19 (gee, I wonder why?!). No, he and Heather argue it was all George Floyd’s fault for being murdered. Inconveniently, by whyte cops.
OTOH, maybe what he means to suggest is that both more whyte cops are refusing to engage to protect Black lives, in harm’s way — and that these whyte cops are more prone to shoot-, and kill- , first — and only ask questions later, if the person they see in an ambiguous situation is of color.
[To be clear, I do not believe that. And the US data would not support it, at least not post the murder of George Floyd. But it is actually less fanciful than the idea that the murder of George Floyd caused people (and, disproportionately, Black people) to be more careless — when driving.]
Damn, Steve. Sit down. Shut up, already.
