Hinderaker’s far right “think” tank is sponsoring a “wasteful government spending” award, in the Sen. William Proxmire (D) tradition. Charming. Not one of his nominees/examples, though, even remotely approaches $50 million… and (unsurprisingly!) none… focus on federal waste — under Trump.

Let me declare the winner, without even a shadow of doubt (see at right): I do not mind that Trump golfs.[ Mr. Obama did — but far less often in eight years, than Trump has — in under four.]

No, it is not that he golfs. It is that he pays himself to go golfing. And he pays himself exorbidantly. Published reports, sourced from inside the clubs, and his own federal filings, regularly recite over $900 per room, per night, for each of the perhaps 150 people in his security detail, and his staffers. And around $50 for each meal for each such person. His club even charges them $6 per bottle of water — for which he pays about $0.39 per bottle.

It is the pure pettiness of his self-dealing greed/grift here that let’s him win the prize.

This, every penny, is from our taxpayer coffers. That’s some $400 hammer, John — or a $300 toilet seat, as we saw in Vietnam. Think about $142 million, every time he brags that he is not pocketing the ~$400K presidential salary.

“He would never even think of taking… so little” — for attempting to destroy our democracy, day by day.

Yes, John — people still care about wasteful government grifting. I just wish you actually still did — when and where it matters.
