Newly-Approved Whooping Cough Vaccine Effective For Babies, By Giving GSK’s Boostrix® To Moms In Third Trimester…
I am all for any reasonable measure that increases vaccination-levels, against dangerous and preventable viruses. Let that be said at the top.
But I will admit to just a twinge of not being sure about this. Of course it will increase the chances that babies are immunized, but I do wonder if it will be more or less forced on the public aid patients, as part of what is required (as we’ve discussed in Tennessee and Mississippi, on implied threats of jailings — states that use the local laws, to force moms into certain “pro-life” care regimes).
[That is, while I admit it is a close call, for me personally, I still do not think any vaccine should be required by law, even at this point, as we struggle into a third year of a waning global pandemic.]
In any event, here’s that news, from MedScape reporting:
…The federal agency on Friday approved Boostrix for use during the last three months of pregnancy to prevent pertussis in infants under two months old. The vaccine, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, was previously approved among pregnant people for their own protection….
And I am also clear-eyed, that this will not increase GSK vaccine sales in any meaningful way, as moms were getting it themselves prior to this expanded approval.
That said, I do like the idea that moms and their babies, by the third trimester… are so closely bonded, and developed, that helping the mom… helps baby. Smile… onward to a glorious cool fall Saturday, raking leaves with the baby-girls.

I will make this quick: John has forever held an abiding hatred for anything that differs from 1950s American orthodoxy, on race, gender, religion and many other dimensions. Irrational, but abiding, forever.
This is so, even though 99.99% of all that he hates… literally has zero impact on his own life, or his own personal (purportedly religious) choices.
He can still do whatever he wants on Sunday — and hate all that he finds uncomfortable, or off-putting in any way, come Monday. He just cannot make discriminatory hiring or promotion decisions, if he is open to the public — on that basis alone. But forever… malign actors, like him, have skirted this federal legal edict, by finding pretextual reasons not to hire or promote people who don’t act or think the way he wants.
[I won’t link it, as it is so unhinged, but on Thursday evening he argued that if we don’t “stop this” — the US will next permit polyamorous marriage. Three or more. But he seems to have no problem with Mormons who’ve followed that — as an offshoot of the main faith. Because they tend to vote… with the GOP. Hilarious — I’ll use a legacy graphic — not worth making a new one, for his sort of embittered old lunacy. At bottom — that is all this is — a cynical driving of wedge issues, to get out frothy hard right votes, as the mid-terms approach. Too late. Trumpism is… dying, John.]

As I seem to be pointing out, more and more these days — all three of the old farts at Powerline… are showing crystal clear signs of… senility.
Tonight Steve Hayward uses an anonymous sourced Hunter gossip piece… to wander off — into the dark, deep wood of the law, and promptly… utterly, irretrievably — lose his way. Update, near 1 AM, Eastern: now Hinderaker too is weighing in, in moronic fashion — suggesting falsely that DoJ only prosecuted GOP criminals. No, John — it just happens far more MAGA/GOP are… committing crimes on the daily. End, update.
Both men seem to equate the private person, an adult son with some troubles (but in no manner acting on behalf of, or run by his political father) to… the former Tangerine occupant of 1600 Penn, himself — the guy in charge of our nation for four long years.
But that’s not even the loony part. Hayward goes on to say that pardoning about 6,400 non-violent simple possession of small amounts of pot cases… means that Mr. Biden will soon preemptively pardon Hunter.
Preposterous.
Prior to Tangerine, no president had ever actually pardoned anyone in his tight inner circle — anyone responsible for multiple felonies (found by federal judges and juries — multiple). [Trump pardoned into the double digits. Damn.]
I can guarantee that this 46th President will never pardon a family member… ever.
Not least of all… for the reason that it would be unseemly, and beneath the office… without any regard for actual innocence… and certainly not if guilt was found by an independent judiciary office.
No, Steve — only the GOP is THAT cynical… or senile — to think (because all of you allowed it — even encouraged it — under 45) that a small number of pot commutations is a foreshadowing of a family pardon.

“Out Of An Abundance Of Caution” US CDC Will Screen All Passengers Arriving By Air From Uganda — For Ebola Symptoms…
This development is due in large measure to the fact that there is no vaccine for the Sudan strain of the Ebola virus.
That, and that the current outbreak is on a main road, to and from the Ugandan capital, and is known to be present in the migrant mining communities that frequent the busses on that road. It is highly unlikely that there will be any US outbreak — but this truly minimizes any appreciable risk, to the extent reasonably feasible:
…The US government will immediately begin redirecting air travelers from Uganda to JFK International Airport, Washington-Dulles International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, Chicago-O’Hare International Airport, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for Ebola screening. The process will include a temperature check, risk assessment, visual symptom check, and contact information verification. US state and local health departments will follow up with travelers 21 days after leaving Uganda….
US health officials believe the current level of risk is low for Ebola spreading in the US, but also plan to alert clinicians and hospitals to be on the lookout for possible cases. A call with thousands of US health-care providers is also planned for Oct. 11….
This same sort of screening was in place for flights out of DRC and later, Sierra Leone, in 2013 and 2014, when the last large outbreaks were seen. That too was prior to the existence of the Zaire-version vaccine… which has been used in each subsequent outbreak to greatly reduce the length and severity of the flare-ups. Now you know. So, Team Tangerine has its merits brief due in just under ten elapsed days.
This is a decidedly bad omen, for MAGA supporters, and doubly so, when coupled to Justice Thomas’ overnight setting a slow schedule to even get papers back from the FBI/DoJ — as to whether the dispute Trump tried to take upstairs. . . is ripe for SCOTUS review (it is not). The briefing in the Eleventh Circuit is likely to be well-nigh half over, before Tangerine even hears that he has been rebuffed by the Supremes.
…ORDER: Appellant’s “Motion to Expedite Appeal” is granted. The Court directs the Clerk to expedite the appeal for merits disposition purposes. Having consulted with the Chief Judge, the appeal will be assigned to a special merits panel from the classified appeals log randomly selected by the Clerk.
That panel will decide when and how to hear oral argument. The Court sets the following expedited briefing schedule, with no extensions allowed:
