US Rep. Bennie G. Thomson (D, Mississippi) Withdraws From DC Klan Act Suit Against Tangerine And Rudy — To Avoid Appearance Of Conflict — As He Is Named To The 01/06/21 Commission.

This was probably not strictly required (under either the federal ethics bar, or US House ethics rules) — since both endeavors only seek the full truth of it. . . but the optics are better, in federal court, if the lead plaintiff is not also leading the House’s 01.06.21 Commission.

So, onward we march, to bringing these Tangerine seditionists. . . to answer, before the full majesty of the law:

. . .Defendants [conspired] to prevent him, and other Members of Congress from discharging these official duties, in violation of 42 U.S.C. § 1985(1). Enacted as the “Ku Klux Klan Act” in 1871, Section 1985(1) was intended to protect against conspiracies, through violence and intimidation, that sought to prevent Members of Congress from discharging their official duties. The statute was enacted in response to violence and intimidation in which the Ku Klux Klan and other organizations were engaged during that time period. . . .

Under the Ku Klux Klan Act, 42 U.S.C. § 1985(1), Defendants may not “conspire to prevent, by force, intimidation, or threat, any person. . . holding any office, trust, or place of confidence under the United States. . . from discharging any duties thereof; or to induce by like means any officer of the United States to leave any. . . place[] where his duties as an officer are required to be performed, or. . . to molest, interrupt, hinder, or impede him in the discharge of his official duties. . . .”

Defendants Trump, Giuliani, Proud Boys, and Oath Keepers plotted, coordinated, and executed a common plan to prevent Congress from discharging its official duties in certifying the results of the presidential election. . . .

Now you know. Rep. Thompson actually withdrew earlier this week, but the suit is picking up pace. As it ought to, as more and more felony defendants are sentenced, and/or pead guilty.

Smiling. . . in spite of the fact that, had law enforcement or military members joined them in large number (thank goodness they did not!). . . our experiment in democratic freedom. . . would have been nearly at an end, after 240 some years. It really is that fragile, people. so, guard it with your. . . very lives.

Marginalia…

Please excuse the thin appearance, here. This was to be a back up site, until blog.com came back online. But that seems unlikely now, so this has become the main site. Only the last twelve years' posts are here for now. The full twenty years of archived material will be imported here, once I recover my full sized images and graphics from that period, either from a cached version of the old site, or if I can find them on that old laptop I long ago moth-balled. Smile. I just don't care for the low-resolution, grainy pixelated images available via Google search at the moment. So we will wait for full size imagery -- on the oldest posts. In truth, those old posts have little relevance to today's electoral politics, except in so far as they suggest very little has changed over time -- in Mr. Hinderaker's world-view. He remains pretty regularly delusional -- since at least 2002. And that is not just a coincidence -- as one nation, we elected Mr. Obama a few years later, and Mr. Hinderaker has never recovered -- to a reality based view of America. America is now a more centrist nation, than the one he lauded under Reagan and Bush 41, 43 and 45. So be it. 45 will now be gone by November. COVID-19 has shown even the ardent partisans 45 is an emperor with no clothes.
