Scott Johnson — On Amir Locke’s Murder By Police — Egregiously… Missing Context.

Scott Johnson claimed to be simply laying out the facts, as known as of this morning — without comment. That was true, up until he commented on race. He chose to cast a dis-believing, jaundiced eye, even as a man (plain as day, on body cam video) was asleep in his dwelling at 7 am, under blankets when a SWAT team stormed his home on a no knock basis. [This is why no knocks are a largely dying breed.]

Scott then has the temerity (presumably because Amir was Black) to ask “why was he armed?“, suggesting it is unlawful or improper, at least (it is neither, given Scott’s own later editorializing about how dangerous downtown Minneapolis he says, has become)… for a man to sleep with a gun in his hand, under covers. In his own dwelling. A man’s dwelling during sleeping hours… is his castle. And you enter it at your considerable peril, if you do not knock first.

Here, and after — Johnson completely loses the thread. He lets his blindingly obvious racial biases lead him to imply (if not write directly) that the man would not be dead if — he wasn’t armed. Were he out on the street, that might be so. And were he… whyte, even armed, under his covers, in his home — he might very well still be alive.

But Scott’s “own pipple” — the Second Amendment enthusiasts — were the victim whyte — would have already immediately leapt to his defense, since it was his own home and the cops didn’t even knock.

But Scott’s take is that this shouldn’t be a race thing. Does anyone believe the cops would have gone “no knock” — if the occupants were known to be white, and well-heeled?

What about well-armed? No, the police took this route to provoke trouble. And Scott’s wilfull blindness (Amir was no suspect, in any crime — and the gun was lawfully in his possession).

Damn, Scott. Damnation (for you, and your now-dying old breed).
